Free AI Alt Text Generator

Upload an image and get a short alt text that tells a screen reader user what the image means — not just what it looks like.

Your image is sent to our server and to our AI provider (Anthropic) only to write the description. We do not store it.

What is alt text?

Alt text is the description of an image in the alt attribute of the <img> tag. Screen readers read it aloud, search engines index it, and browsers show it when the image fails to load. WCAG success criterion 1.1.1 (Level A) requires a text alternative for every meaningful image; purely decorative images get an empty alt so they are skipped.

How to write good alt text

  • Say what the image means in this place, not every visual detail. One short phrase, usually under 100 characters.
  • Do not start with “Image of” or “Picture of” — screen readers already announce that it is an image.
  • For a link or a button made of an image, describe where it leads or what it does, not the picture.
  • If the text next to the image already says the same, or the image is only decoration, use alt="".

Frequently asked questions

Is the alt text generator free?

Yes. You can describe up to 10 images a day without an account. For a whole website, InclusiveWeb finds every image without alt text and writes descriptions for all of them.

How does it write the description?

An AI vision model (Claude by Anthropic) looks at the image and follows accessibility rules: name the subject and its purpose, keep it short, skip colours and layout unless they matter, and flag purely decorative images.

Which languages are supported?

English, German, Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, French, Spanish and Italian. Choose the language of the page where the image will appear.

Do you keep my images?

No. The image is used only to write the description and is not stored on our side.

Can AI alt text replace a human?

For most product photos, illustrations and icons it gives a good first draft. For charts, infographics and images whose meaning depends on the page, read it and edit it: you know the context best.

Missing alt text on hundreds of images?

InclusiveWeb finds every image without alt text on your site, writes descriptions from the page context and delivers them after your review — no code changes.
